*the purpose of "the soapbox" is to give you a front row seat on the inner thoughts and processes of our pastors on god, life, and culture. enjoy.
WELL... IF IT'S GOD'S WILL, IT WILL JUST HAPPEN!
really? then why did god give us the ability to choose? why do we have the power to exercise free will? was it god's perfect will for adam to eat from the tree of forbidden fruit? if everything is gods will then did he create lucifer to rebel, sin to flourish in the universe and some people to go to hell? of course not! none of these things are consistent with god's character nor scripture.
jesus taught in
luke 6:45 that
"a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil things!" he did not say that god would reward the good man with good treasure in his heart with good things, and he didn't say that god would punish the evil man with evil treasure in his heart with evil things. he said these things were consequential.
your life is the sum total of the choices you make. moses said,
"today i have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing therefore choose life!" deuteronomy 30:15-19. joshua further echoed this by saying,
"choose for yourselves who you are going to serve, but as for me and my house we will serve the lord!" when elijah came to the children of israel he challenged them by saying,
"how long are you going to falter between two opinions, if baal is god then serve him, but if the lord is god then serve him!" 1 kings 18. we see the power of choice all the way through the scriptures. god has placed your destiny into your hands. you can choose to reject or accept what he has for you. you can choose to bless or curse with your words the purposes of god for your life.
i am completing a series entitled
"its in your...hands, mouth, head, heart, choices..." god has placed the power of your future in your hands. many people hate this thought because it means that we are accountable for our choices, decisions, and lives. it is easier to just bury our heads in the sand of abdication and sing along "que sera sera... whatever will be will be" if so how then can there be a judgment day?
the words you speak, the meditation of your heart, the actions you lay hold of, the thoughts you entertain in your mind and the choices you make with your life determine your destiny. god wants to be center of all of these but he will not force himself into your world. like he said to joshua
"be strong and very courageous, meditate on my word day and night and do not let it depart from your mouth, for then you will make your way prosperous and have good success!" the ball is in your court, choose god, choose life and enjoy good success!
